How Would You Change Your Home for Better Health and Wellbeing?

Last Wednesday was National Pack Rat day and I had the honor of being featured on the Momentum Tribe’s video show. One of the topics we discussed was how to organize your desk. You can see the video here: Momentum Tribe Interview.

This Monday, I joined DesignHounds for a day in New York City at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). My biggest takeaway is that the event has become much more about the typical design manufacturers – lots of bath and tile – and much less about the cutting edge furniture that used to fill the floors. It was still a fun day and I did find some gems for offices, which will be in a future blog post.

But let’s talk focus on the presentation at breakfast on our DesignHounds tour. Martha Orellana, we jokingly call her Mrs Steam, gave a presentation about health and wellbeing in design. I talk about this topic frequently as it is near and dear to my heart.


Your interior design of your home or office can help improve your mood, fitness, nutrition, sleep patterns and your performance; Your health and wellbeing.


*  Using a standing desk means you will burn more calories.

*  If your kitchen includes plenty of refrigeration and a steam oven you will be more likely to eat your vegetables.

*  When you invest in a top quality bed, you will get a better night’s sleep.

Now imagine creating a spa bath in your home without having to change the layout. Mr. Steam provides steam showers and heated towel racks that give you the spa feel without having to make an appointment and head out in your car or subway or bus.

Many people know the advantages of saunas, but I find many don’t realize how beneficial to your health steam bathing can be.
